Bangladesh is blessed with beauty bouquet. Among all other areas of the country Sylhet is considered as the spiritual capital. With terraced tea gardens, rolling landscapes, exotic flora and fauna, amazing waterfalls and beautiful rivers, the whole district is one of the major destinations for the tourists. As the road communication and accommodation facilities are developed enough, now you can visit Sylhet comfortably along with your friends and family members.
Lalakhal
Lalakhal, 44 km away from Sylhet city, is situated in Jaintapur with green hills, natural forests, tea gardens, and rivers. Flowing from the Meghalaya ranges of India the river Myntdu enters Lalakhal as the river Saree and meets the river Guaiyan after passing Sarighat. Over a stretch of nearly 12 km of the river from Lalakhal to Sarighat, the colour of the water stays transparent green. Besides at the eastern bank of river Saree, there is the Lalakhal Tea Garden to amaze the visitors.
Jaflong
Jaflong is still a must-see destination for the tourists visiting Sylhet. The beautiful tourist attraction located in the East Jaflong union under Guainghat upazilla, 62 km distant from the district town, stands on the bank of the river Piyain. You can hire boats to go to the Zero Point and see the beautiful hanging bridge over the river Dauki. Besides if you travel from Jaintapur to Tamabil in the monsoon you would find lush green tall Khasi Mountains standing upright beside the road. The stunning beauty of white clouds and gushing waterfalls flowing from the green mountains would fascinate all. Jaflong Tea Garden is another place which offers wonderful natural beauty.
Ratargul
The only freshwater swamp forest of the country Ratargul Swamp Forest is in Guainghat, 21 km away from Sylhet. A dense forest comprising mostly of native hijol and koroch trees, it offers a sanctuary for different species of birds, monkeys, snakes and other reptiles. Ratargul is in close proximity of three rivers- Chenger Khal, Kafna meet and Guain. Water of these rivers makes its way into the forest and leaves it marooned under 15 to 20 feet water with the bottom half of the dense forest covered under water and the top half visible with its multitudes of shades falling on crystal-clear water underneath. The best time to visit Ratargul Swamp Forest is early in the morning or early in the evening in the rainy season.
Khadimnagar Rainforest
If you like natural forest, Sylhet is the best place for you. There are Rema Kalenga Reserve Forest and Sathchori National Forest in Chunnarughat, but huge distance makes it difficult to visit those. Rather Khadimnagar Rainforest, only 10 km away from the city on the Sylhet-Jaflong Highway, is a better option. Comprising of 1,673 acres of hills and natural forest surrounded by six tea gardens — Choragang and Habibnagar on the East, Borjan and Kalagul on the West, Gulni on the North, and Khadimnagar on the South, the rainforest is ready to welcome you with 217 species of plants and trees. Khadimnagar Rainforest is quite popular among the trekkers with a forty five-minute and a two-hour trail. There is a map of the trails in front of the local forest office. Besides, trekkers can also hire a local guide.
Panthumai
Panthumai, a village of West Jaflong union under Guainghat upazilla, is located 70 km outlying Sylhet sadar. The village, which is very near to the East Khasia hill of the Meghalaya ranges, boasts of an eye-catching fall popularly known as Borhill Fall. Though the main fall is geographically located in the Indian Territory, people can enjoy its enormous splendour head-on. Besides the splendid fall, the Guainghat-Pangthumai Road itself is a sight for the sore eye. The enormous mountain ranges appear to come closer and turn from blue to green gradually. And when the clouds and the falls play hide and seek it satiates the soul.
Lovachora
Lovachora is a bordering area of Kanaighat, 62 km away from the Sylhet city. It is essentially a quarry where stones and boulders are mined. A visit to Lovachora involves a boat journey from Kanaighat. When the boat moves east, it soon reaches the confluence of three rivers- Borak, Lova and Surma. The shades of far-flung hills falling on the crystal clear streams of the Lova make for a heavenly sight. The Lovachora Tea Garden is spread over a wide area from the river bank to the slopes of the hills. Together with an antique cottage, it is a must-see for the visitors. If you can take permission from BGB, you can go to the source of the Lova and see the hanging bridge which connects two hills on the other side of the border.
Bisnakandi
Bisnakandi, 40 km away from Sylhet, is placed in Rustompur union under Guainghat upazilla. This is where many layers of the Khasi Mountain meet at a single point from both sides. There is also a beautiful high fall. The rainy season is the perfect time to visit the beautiful Bisnakandi that coalesce the charms of high mountains, sinuous rivers, graceful falls and dancing clouds.
