Rising rate of corona infection outside Dhaka: What are ways out

Different districts outside Dhaka are seeing abnormal rate of corona infection and the number of deaths from such infection is also increasing. The rate is now even higher than Dhaka. According to a number of news reports published in different leading newspapers, a number of districts outside Dhaka, especially those situated near the India-Bangladesh border, have been experiencing a rising trend of infections and deaths.Last month, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) found evidence of community transmission.

The situation is turning out to be alarming with more and more patients getting infected every day and many people dying outside Dhaka because of coronavirus. Under such circumstances, what should be done to contain this virus and what the people, in general, should do?

Mass vaccination

Social distancing rules are okay, but how long will you keep maintaining those? These steps are not going to bear fruits in the long run. The solution rather lies in vaccination. The more the government will vaccinate people, the more is the possibility of looking up and getting back to normal life. Often, it is seen that people in the rural areas are not really interested in taking vaccines, let alone maintaining health guidelines. Under such circumstances, it is imperative that they are being made aware of the benefits of taking vaccines and encourage them to do so.

Mass awareness campaign

Villagers are not at all interested about health guidelines, masks and washing hands. They don’t even recognize the fact that there is something line corona. They need to be educated about the deadly consequences of such ignorance. Such reluctance is already taking a heavy toll on human lives in the suburb and border areas. People need to make sure that they are putting on masks and washing hands from time to time if they really want to get out of this nightmare in the shortest possible time.

Facilitating the hospitals

It has been reported that hospitals in the district and upazilla levels are not properly facilitated to treat serious Covid-19 patients. The government needs to ramp up its efforts and take necessary steps early to facilitate those hospitals with necessary equipment and logistics support. Otherwise, it will be difficult to deal with huge inrush of increasing Covid patients.
