We, as humans, usually like to see life through rose-tinted glasses until we reach the epiphany when we suddenly find ourselves out of the gentle slumber we fell into and come to realize the real facts. For so many diabetic patients out there the situation is, more or less, the same as they often behave apathetically until they face the bitter truth of being diagnosed with this disease. If we transmute the raw materials of the experience Tazul Islam, a 26-year-old Type-1 diabetic patient, went through into stories, it will pretty much sound like the afore-mentioned narrative.

The news dropped like a bombshell when Tazul, a mentor at Young Leaders in Diabetes Program (YLD), was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetics with a blood sugar level of 32.5 nine years ago in 2009 at the age of only 16. Tazul, startled and disoriented, could not believe his ears as he thought someone of his age would be impervious to diabetics.
