The role of wildlife in human existence is significant. Wildlife in natural environment confirms biodiversity, which is the integral part of food chain. Aiming to balance this chain and to attract the tourists to the biggest Safari Park of Asia Bangabandhu Safari Park has been established in Gazipur. The model of this park is similar to that of Safari World in Thailand. Some ideas have been enshrined from the Bali Safari Park, Indonesia. There are many zoos for the nature lovers in the country. But, zoos and safari parks are different. In the zoos, animals are kept in cages and the visitors remain free while in the safari park, the scenario is just the opposite. In a safari park, the jungle environment is maintained for the animals. As a result, animals feel more comfortable in safari park.
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur has emerged as one of the most gorgeous tourist destinations of the country. Despite its popularity among mass people, it has been observed while paying a visit to the Safari park that there are some kinds of inconveniences.
First of all, there are mainly two types of thematic parks – core safari park and safari kingdom. Well, total area of the whole park is huge and it’s almost impossible to roam around the whole area by foot. So, the visitors usually feel very exhausted just after one or two hours. But there is no provision of vehicles or transport inside the safari park. Ultimately the visitors cannot roam around the whole park rather they have to come back early owing to their weariness. But if the authority would keep the facility of transport inside the park, then the situation would have been different. In that case, the visitors could easily wander through the park.
Secondly, the visitors are to get on the minibuses provided by the authority to tour around the core safari park. But the ride is not worth the trouble as the facility is extremely ill-managed. People involved with the management of the vehicles take undue advantage of the responsibilities bestowed upon them as it has been observed that visitors sometimes have to wait in the queue for a long time to avail the facility. Even they do not have specific times to start the trips, and in the off-season you might have to wait for even an hour for the “only operational vehicle” to return from an earlier trip.
Thirdly, there are only a few animals around the place. The visitors will be able to spot only lion, tiger, zebra, giraffe, monkey, deer etc. Astonishingly, the park still does not host some other animals and mammals such as hippopotamus, kangaroo, hanuman, sambar, crocodile, serpent etc. Moreover many visitors feel that the animals in the safari park are not fed properly by the people responsible for taking care of these species. The animals look very pale and skinny as they are not provided adequate diet.
Fourthly, it is evident from some initiatives of the concerned authority that something is terribly wrong with the whole management of the park. For instance- there are several watch towers in the safari park but none of those is in service. It means the visitors have no scope of observingwildlife and surrounding areas from a height. Despite the fact that the watch towers are well-constructed, those are not kept open for the visitors. And there is no proper justification for such a step.
Finally, the restaurants located inside the safari park are not offering good food. Usually people feel very tired after roaming around the whole area for hours and so, they get hungry. But the food items offered in those restaurants are not tasty enough to satiate visitors’ taste buds and appetite. In fact, the restaurants do not have any excellent regular menu to offer to the visitors. Consequently the visitors, the children in particular, have tosuffer because of the lack of quality food.
Under such circumstances, the entire area needs proper intervention immediately. Especially some facilities such as basic tourist amenities, guidance, emergency measures, medical facilities etc. are to be introduced for the convenience of the visitors and tourists.
