Mouth-Watering Bhortas

Our celebration is never complete without the traditional dishes and what could better represent our tradition than bhortas (mashed items) as far as food delicacies are concerned. This winter satisfy your taste buds with these flavorsome bhortas (mashed items).

Lau Bhorta (Mashed Bottle Gourd)

Ingredients

  • 5 cup gourd seeds
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • 2-3 finely green chilies
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic and ginger
  • 1 teaspoon oil

Directions

  • Heat a pan with some oil, add gourd seeds along with other ingredients and cook.
  • Add some salt in it.
  • Take a mixer and add all the ingredients in it and grind it until the paste is smooth.
  • Serve with rice.

 

 Red Chili Shutki Bhorta

Ingredients

  • Few cleaned headless dry cheppa shutki
  • Oil as needed
  • Salt as needed
  • Dry red chilies
  • 1 cup cubed onions and sliced garlic

 

Directions

  • Fry the onions and garlic until they become soft, and then add the cheppa shutki and cook on low medium heat.
  • Now add the shutki with other ingredients and fry it lightly with some salt.
  • Grind the chili.
  • Now start mashing the bharta first. Later mix it with the chili and mash it again. Keep mashing or blending the bharta until it comes out as a paste.

 

Mustard Seed Bhorta

Ingredients

  • 1 cup soaked and peeled white mustard seeds.
  • I cup chopped onion.
  • 2 sliced garlic
  • 4/5 sliced chilis
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions

  • Fry the onion, garlic and chili until they become soft and caramelized. And let it cool when it’s done.
  • Put all the ingredients in the mixer along with the soaked and peeled mustard seeds.
  • Mix everything until it comes as a paste.
