A chit-chat with the expression queen

Despite the idea thatNawshaba claims herself to be a struggling actress, there is no denying that she has already won many people’s hearts with her amiable personality and immaculate acting. Recently she opened up about her struggle and endeavours:

When you were approached by the director of ‘Dhaka Attack’ for a cameo role, did you think that this would bring you so much love and admiration?

“No, I did not expect such response. Actually I am not very calculative when it comes to my work. But that doesn’t mean that I will take up any role. For instance- many directors are now offering me the role of a pregnant woman but this is to inform all that I am not going to perform in any such role further. I love experimentation and so, I would love to challenge myself by portraying various kinds of roles in future. And I can go to any length to depict my role in the best possible way.”

You have first acted in the film ‘Udhao’ and then you went on to perform in the films ‘BhubanMajhi’ and ‘Dhaka Attack’. All of these have been critically acclaimed. Are you quite selective when it comes to choosing a film?

“I am definitely selective. I want to attach myself to those films that have an emotional appeal. Let me explain it; otherwise people may misinterpret me. I want to act in those films which will force movie-goers to whistle after watching it in the cinema hall. In the same way I want to be with those films that are made purely for the sake of art for a particular audience. We must understand that art films must be produced to satisfy the intellectual thirst of the audience. In the meantime directors will have to make commercial films as well to save the cinema halls from incurring loss. As far as my choice is concerned, I want to associate myself with the quality films and pursue my acting career.”

You have worked in theatres, acted in many dramas and then decided to do films. Are you planning your career in a systematic way?

“Not at all, I am not planning my career options so thoughtfully. I am ready to get involved in any work if it seems appropriate for me. So anyone who is willing to handle my crazy love for work effectively and make the best out of my ability can approach and offer me good works.”

Say something about your role in ‘ChondrobotiKotha’?

“I am portraying the role of Sita from Ramayana in this film. The film is based on Chandravati (the first woman poet of Bengali language) and Ramayana written by her. It is mentionable that Chandravati was the first woman from the Indian subcontinent to compose the Ramayana in Bengali. She narrated the Ramayana from Sita’s point of view. In this film I will play the role of that Sita narrated from Chandravati’s perspective. This was quite a challenging role for me as I had to read a lot of books and go through preps to portray the character of Sita impeccably.”
