Why reading habit is so important?

Everyone does not read because everyone does not want to learn. On the other hand, there are some people who read voraciously only because they have a strong desire to gather knowledge. It is true, as pointed out in the quotation, that reading opens the door that allows you to be enlightened.

But there seems to have so many important things to do in this pacy world; consequently people run out of time when it comes to reading. They cannot even manage a small amount of time to go through a write-up. And when it is about reading a book, I am afraid there are very few people who are interested. People now-a-days are far away from reading as they are getting habituated to leading technology-oriented life day by day. In other words, people are not at all interested to read because you literally get exposed to a world where you can make a fuss as soon as you touch the mouse and hit Mozilla to browse.

Well, it is not like that people do not have time to go through an article or write-up rather they are reluctant readers. And people now prefer spending time on social networking sites to reading an article or book. Whenever I post my write-up on facebook, I feel so frustrated and irritated at the same time because people do not read.Instead of reading the article, they just ‘like’ the post. Even if I request them to just read my write-up and leave some comments for my betterment instead of liking my post, they again, out of utter callousness, ‘like’ my comment. And still they do not read.

Well, people (the youths in particular) do so many things on social networking sites. The youths, to some extent, squander a significant amount of time for facebooking and uploading selfies. In this process, they even fail and sometimes forget to prioritize their works. A good percentage of the youth (especially girls) undergoes busy time over uploading and tagging selfies, in addition to this, they mostly find it alluring to upload snap shots every now and then taken from different angles using several effects on the photos. To everyone’s utter surprise, sometimes this has been the core business for a number of young people using Facebook frequently and moreover they do not regard such activity a waste of time. But when it comes to reading a feature, they run out of time. They get time for doing all the aforesaid things but they cannot manage a meager amount of time for reading a feature. What a farce!

In the meantime, sometimes people pretend to be wise and so, they post comments so that people form a misconception that he/she has gone through that particular article. But he/she did not actually read that article. And the kinds of comments they post clearly indicate that they have just posted a whimsical comment. For instance- people post comments like ‘very good’, ‘I am proud of you’, ‘keep it up’, ‘keep writing’, ‘an excellent piece of writing’ etc. All these comments specify that they did not read because these are very common and average comments. And if they would have gone thorough that article, they would post specific comments and point out definite points to show his/her point of view on that particular topic.

It is mentionable that it will be unfair to blame the youths only rather people from all walks of life are reluctant to read. Even the university teachers are not interested to read a write-up even if the feature is a motivating one. If you keep pushing them, sometimes they also comment whimsically in order to pacify you.

But why are we so reluctant to read? Reading is indeed important. If you read, you actually exercise your brain muscles. Consequently you activate and develop the ability to think rationally. And if you do not read, you actually let your brain rust. And moreover scholars have put emphasis on reading time and again as this is very vital to be a complete man. It can be said in the words of Francis Bacon in this way, “Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man. And therefore, if a man writes little, he had need have a great memory; if he confers little, he had need have a present wit: and if he reads little, he had need have much cunning, to seem to know, that he doth not.”
